Dwa lata temu do kościoła przyszła pewna starsza pani, Greczynka i zaczęła mi coś tłumaczyć. Niewiele rozumiałem z tego, co do mnie mówi. Jednak gestykulacja i mowa ciała pomogła. Zrozumiałem, że opowiada o jakimś ubogim, bezdomnym Polaku. Pojechaliśmy do Nea Tirinta (miejscowości oddalonej od Nafplio około 10 km). Marek siedział na krawężniku koło greckiego kościoła.
Przywitał się: Niech będzie pochwalony Jezus Chrystus.
I tak zaczęła się nasza znajomość.
Grecja jest pięknym krajem. Każdy, kto tu przyjeżdża, zakochuje się natychmiast. Jednak jest druga strona medalu tej słonecznej Hellady. Przyznam, że po wielu latach pobytu na Ukrainie niewiele jest mnie w stanie zaskoczyć… A jednak… Oderwanie od domu rodzinnego, kultury i religii każdy przeżywa na swój sposób. Zdarza się, że na wychodźctwie polskie dusze giną, a na ulicach tych obcych dla nas miast, można spotkać wielu zagubionych Polaków.
Marek był jednym z nich. Mieszkał w lepiance z dziurawym dachem. W południe wychodził na plac koło kościoła i żebrał o jedzenie i tanie wino. W czasie moich odwiedzin często opowiadał o swoim życiu. Wyjechał z Polski 19 lat temu do pracy na zbiór pomarańczy. Czas szybko mijał i sprawiał, że coraz trudniej było utrzymać więź z rodziną i to tak potrzebne każdemu człowiekowi poczucie, że jest się dla kogoś bliskim i potrzebnym.
Któregoś dnia, podczas rozmowy z matką, mężczyzna usłyszał takie słowa: Marek więcej nie dzwoń.
Odłożył telefon i zapłakał… Może to wtedy się załamał? Zaczął pić, by choć przez chwilę zapomnieć o odtrąceniu. Brakowało mu celu i świadomości, że ma dla kogo żyć.
W trakcie naszych spotkań Marek chętnie opowiadał mi o wiosce, w której się wychował, o pracy na gospodarstwie i o swojej rodzinie. Przypominał sobie adres domu rodzinnego, numery telefonów swoich dawnych znajomych i czas, w którym wszystko zdawało się mieć sens.
Raz podał mi numer do osoby, która kiedyś była dla niego wsparciem. Zadzwoniłem. Odezwała się jego siostra – Iwona. Ucieszyła się, że odnalazła brata. Poprosiła o wysłanie zdjęcia Marka na Whatsappie. Nie mogła go rozpoznać, tak się zmienił. Tylko oczy pozostały te same.
Marek chętnie się modlił. Często odmawialiśmy różaniec w jego chatce. Przyniosłem mu obraz Matki Bożej Częstochowskiej, który udekorował i otoczył świeczkami. Kiedy długo mnie nie było, liczył dni.
– Dawno księdza nie było – mówił –aż 12 dni.
Któregoś razu podarowałem mu Pismo Święte Starego i Nowego Testamentu. Marek chętnie czytał. Później zawsze mi mówił, na której jest stronie i opowiadał o tym, co czytał. Iwona zaczęła wysyłać mu paczki żywnościowe i bardzo się starała, żeby jej brat wrócił do Polski. Marek jednak nie chciał. Dzięki swojej siostrze miał również telefon z polskim numerem telefon. Teraz miał stały kontakt z rodziną. Ostatni miesiąc był najtrudniejszy. Na nic się nie skarżył. Już nie mógł wstawać z łóżka, choć mało sypiał. Męczyła go bezsenność.
Tydzień przed śmiercią pojechaliśmy z Antonim, żeby go zabrać do szpitala. Przyjechała karetka pogotowia, żeby go ratować. Marek kolejny raz odmówił.
Kiedy piszę to wspomnienie na moim biurku leży jego Biblia trochę brudna poplamiona. Zatrzymał się na stronie 1404. Kończył czytanie księgi Kocheleta. Zatrzymał się na fragmencie:
Wtedy przerwie się srebrny sznur stłucze się złota czara (lampa oliwna zawieszona na srebrnym sznurze) dzban się rozbije u źródła i kołowrót runie do studni. Wtedy proch powróci do ziemi, skąd został wzięty, a duch powróci do Boga, który go dał.
